Gulmarg

India's finest skie resort, Gulmarg, 53 kms. from Srinagar offers golf, tennis, skiing and trekking as winter sports from December to February.Known as the Meadow of flowers, it has the distinction of offering the highest natural golf course in the world 2890 mts.

Pahalgam

Unspoilt by the ravages of progress, 96 kms. east of Srinagar, nestled on the banks of river Lidder lies the quaint village of Pahalgam at an altitude of 2400 mts above sea level.It was the preserve of Nomadic Shepherds. Provides an excellent opportunity for trout fishing and is perhaps best known as the take-off for treks in the surrounding mountains.

Sonmarg

Gateway to Ladakh, at an altitude of 2740 mts. with brilliant forests of sycamore and alpine flowers, silver birch, fir and pine, it is a golden meadow of enthralling beauty.Take a 90 kms. drive through the luxuriant Sind Valley to this region of breath taking sights.

Yusmarg

This is a sylvan glade at the base of the Sang-i-Safed Valley in the Pantsal range.A magnificient view of Nanga Parbat (8670 mts.) can be glimpsed enroute to Yusmarg.

Mughal Gardens

A pleasure resorts on the banks of the sublime Dal Lake are these burgoning gardens -NISHAT (Garden of Pleasure), SHALIMAR (Abode of Love) and CHASHMA SHAHI (Royal Springs).

Khir Bhavani

In a pool of spring waters, a marble temple with a gold plated dome.

Manasbal Lake

A small but beautiful lake sprinkled with lotus end a heaven for aquatic birds. On the bank is a lovely lush, terraced garden.

Wular Lake

An hour's drive from Srinagar are the Jade green waters of the largest fresh water lake in Asia from an unobstrueed view of the snow-capped HARMUKH can be seen.Acting as a National Flood Reservoir.

Avantipur

About 56 kms away from Srinagar, to the south, is Avantipur which is famaous for its Sulphur Springs.Also beyond the saffron fields of Pampore lie the stone temples which bear a distinct Greek influence.

Shankaracharaya Tempale

Known as the Takht-e-Suleiman (the throne of Solomon), it offers a panoramic view of the city, the valley and the Pir Panjal range. The temple is thronged by thousands of pilgrims each year. On the north-eastern side is Hari Parbat. A Durga Temple stands nearby at Chareshwari.

Daksum

2438 meters, a forest retreat girdled by mountains is peaceful, unspoilt. From Daksum one can cross over to Kishtwar in Jammu, through the Simthan Pass.

Verinag

The famous spring, the chief source of river Jhelum. Mughal Emperors Jehangir and Shahjahan built an octagonal tank and arcade around it. Down the stream are remains of Mughal pavillion.

Kokernag

1940 meters, 83 kms from Srinagar. The kokernag spring emerges from resembling a chicken claw -- hencethe name Kokernag. The crisp mountain air, here is invigorating and waters of the springs have medicinal value. Beautiful gardens, picnic spots and trout fishing pools are interspersed all over.

Panchtarni

13 kms from Sheshnag. Five streams meet here. Good camping.

Aru

2408 mts. 11 kms from Pahalgam, the path winds upwards through woods to the charming meadow of Aru. There the river Lidder disappears at Gur Khumb and reappears after about 27 mts.

Gangbal Trek

A fine trek west of sonmarg is to cross the Nichinai pass to Gangbal lake. As always, you would do well to have a local to accoympan you. To reach the trailhead, go 2 miles down valley from Sonmarg toward Srinagar to the bridge below the tightly clustered houses of Shitkari village, where the road crosses the Sind River. Across the river from this small village, begin walking on the true Right Bank to the lakes called Krishan Sar and Vishan Sar, and beyond to Gangbal Lake near Haramukh, the highest peak in the vicinity of the Kashmir valley.

Thajiwas Trek

One of the most popular short walks from Sonamarg and a major attraction during the summer months is the 4-km route to Thajiwas, a small valley at the foot of the Sonmarg glacier. A path leads up to the Shakhdar hill, overlooking the glacier from the northeast. It is dangerous to climb the steep slope leading up to the glacier. Ponies can be hired for the trip up to Thajiwas glacier. Often in early summer one will meet groups of Gujar passing through Sonmarg on their way to the alpine meadows for the summer.

Lidderwat

3048 meters, 11 kms from Aru, meadows in dense forests welcome you.Lidderwat is good for camping. Trek from here to the Sindh Valley.

Kolahoi Glacier

3200 meters, 13 kms from Lidderwat is the base of the glacier. A trek from Lidderwat to this glacier and back can be completed in a day.
